QY Furniture – Malaysia Villa Furniture Project
This project involves a comprehensive custom furniture solution for the living room of a high-end private villa in Malaysia. It features a “Nanyang Modern New Chinese” style, tailored for the spacious, wide-layout reception areas typical of tropical villas.
The collection forms a complete living room suite, comprising a multi-seater main sofa, single lounge armchairs, and matching round stools; the sofa incorporates a unique integrated storage design. The design blends Southeast Asian rattan elements with modern “light luxury” leatherwork, making it ideal for Malaysia’s tropical climate while serving both daily family life and formal entertaining in large residences.
• Multi-seater Main Sofa: Features a generous seat depth suited to the entertaining habits of large Southeast Asian homes. A key highlight is the integrated, hidden modular storage box within the armrest side—a pull-out unit serving as both storage and a small tray. The seat cushions and backrests are upholstered in off-white leather, contrasted by caramel-orange-brown leather on the armrests and base trim. The armrest and backrest frames are crafted from dark solid wood with inlaid natural rattan mesh, ensuring breathability.
Throw pillows feature an off-white body with orange-brown contrasting piping and exquisite stitching details.
• Single Lounge Armchair: Shares the same design language as the sofa, featuring a solid wood frame, double-sided rattan paneling, and dual-tone upholstery. With a wide seat, these chairs are designed to be arranged in pairs to create an intimate, enclosed conversation area.
• Matching Round Stool: Upholstered in the same caramel-orange-brown leather; compact and lightweight, offering flexible additional seating.
Analysis of Core Materials and Craftsmanship
1. Leather Upholstery
Utilizes a two-tone combination of weather-resistant faux leather or genuine leather (off-white and caramel-orange contrast). Filled with high-density, high-resilience foam for a plush, substantial seating feel. Materials are selected for their resistance to yellowing, humidity, and heat—specifically to suit Malaysia’s climate—thereby minimizing risks of stuffiness, aging, or mold. Throw pillows feature meticulous contrasting top-stitching and piped edges.
2. Natural Rattan Craftsmanship
The armrests and side panels of the backrest feature natural plant-based rattan weaving; the open-mesh design promotes airflow, making it ideal for tropical environments. A dark solid wood frame secures the rattan surface, preventing unraveling while balancing aesthetic appeal with durability.
3. Solid Wood Frame
Constructed with a dark walnut solid wood frame and angled solid wood legs, the design offers soft yet stable lines. The wood undergoes moisture-proofing treatment to withstand Malaysia’s humid climate, minimizing the risk of warping or cracking.

The setting is a typical modern villa living room in Malaysia, featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook a tropical garden courtyard, ensuring abundant natural light.
The furniture follows an enclosed layout: a large main sofa paired with multiple lounge chairs and matching round stools creates a spacious, welcoming area for hosting guests.
The interior features a minimalist modern foundation, with ample natural light and outdoor greenery visually integrated into the space. The furniture’s color palette—warm orange-brown, off-white, and natural wood/rattan tones—harmonizes perfectly with the tropical Nanyang environment, creating a space suitable for both formal guest reception and casual family relaxation.
